Day Sixty Seven - Eventful
There has been a lot of stuff that I have been meaning to do for the past little while. Little things, but they do tend to add up, as I’m sure you can relate and with only having a couple days off, I tried to pack it all into one day. The biggest item on my very realistic check list (seriously… it was on a post-it, in Sharpie and everything) was to get a second job.
I had no idea how I was going to cross the “second job” off the list. What was I going to apply for? Do I want to work at my Dad’s company again (the answer is no… I’ve done my time haha), or do I want to go back to the deli, or do I try something completely new.
If you follow me on twitter (which you should by now, @mitchhawes), you would know that someone called me, out of the blue to offer me a job. You can read all about it here. Naturally, this works perfectly. It solves my second job procrastination complex and it takes all the hard work out of getting a job (resume writing, applying, interviews etc.). So today, I finally crossed an item off my list. I went in to meet with this woman and I signed the papers. Second job…. CHECK! Although I have never worked retail it seems decent. I’ll be starting in a week or two, so I’ll let you know.
After this task was completed I got to do the other not-so-exciting stuff… optometrist appointment (everything is a-okay) and then I got to shill out a bazillion dollars for new prescription sunglasses (because I may or may not have lost my last pair at the bottom of a lake… no comment). All in all it was a pretty productive day and I’m hoping it continues.
However this got me thinking about this blog… with two jobs (most likely working 7/week for awhile) I’m going to need some help keeping this blog going. So I’m bringing back a major push for some stories, but this time I’m making it a little more broad. I want to hear your story about job searching in general, radio or otherwise. Greatest success, biggest failure, worst mistake, hardest interview question, you name it. This way we learn stuff, possibly get a good laugh and we keep the community feel of the blog going. You know the drill. If you’re interested send me an email to mitch.hawes@gmail.com. If you send me something, it will be posted.
Hope to hear from you and feel free to tweet me too just to say “Hi”, or share a link or a topic that you think we should discuss. This will do double-duty as well. Help the blog and keep me entertained YAY!
