Day Fifty Three - Proud Day

Without getting too sappy, today was a pretty big and exciting day. I fulfilled one of my many life/career goals and although it was brief it made me stop and reflect for a moment while it sunk it.

I’ve wanted to do this whole radio gig since I was 5. I knew I wanted to take the radio program at BCIT and then I wanted to get on the air waves. After battling the unemployment train, I got a job in my home city, in a building I used to go by all the time as a kid and smile, hoping I would get to work there some day. Check! One of my career goals was already completed, but that was just the beginning.

In the past week I’ve been able to cross off other, maybe not as momentous things to a season professional, but for me, still pretty big things. Like being given the cruiser keys and being told to go to a remote. But today was the day I’ve been waiting for, the day my voice was heard on a legitimate radio station.

No more of this campus stuff, I’m talking a real cut-in on a big station and not only once, 4 times and then another four times tomorrow and then another 8 times next weekend and so on and so on!

As I was driving to a winner’s house for a station BBQ this afternoon, I caught one of my first cut-ins and all I can do was smile (and blush a little…) because it’s a very surreal feeling, but I love it! I have a voice and it’s being heard! The coolest part… I’m Victoria famous! Want to know how I know that? Because a listener knew my name before I introduced myself… SUCCESS!

Now don’t worry, I deflated my ego after a couple minutes of happy dancing… but I also want to inform you that I will be holding an autograph session next weekend. HA!
