Day Forty Nine - Second Job

I’ve neglected the daily posts for a couple days and it is unacceptable. I got out of my blogging groove and I’m going to fix that. SO! As you may know, a couple days ago I got hired at a local radio station to do some part time promotions work. I’m super excited about all of this. It’s a great starting position with loads of opportunities, but the problem is, it has a part-time pay cheque.

You can go back to the previous posts and read all of the advice from current radio pros and almost all of them talk about how rough it was to make ends meat during the first little while. I’m at this point now. I’m stoked that I have my first job in radio with such nice people, but 3 shifts a week is not enough to pay the bills. This is semi-depressing. I wasn’t expecting great money in radio (that’s a no-brainer), but I did have my mind set on a full-time position. Seeing as how I got part time instead, I have come to the realization that I need to pick up a….a sec-….second…. a second job. There I said it!

I’ve worked multiple jobs at a time before, but it gets tricky. I feel that having two jobs can be great for the ol’ wallet, but it can also take away from my goal of being in radio. Basically the second job would just be for a pay cheque, not something I’m truly passionate about. I just hope that I will be able to give the cliche 110% to both jobs while focusing on my career, because I am not one of those people to half-ass something. I don’t want to screw over one employer to help another, even if it is for my true passion, radio.

So this blog isn’t quite through the job hunting phase. I’m starting to apply to the less-glamourous, minimum wage type jobs. Although I am looking into freelance writing and voice over, you might/probably will be seeing me sculpting a decadent sandwich as a… what do you call it? A Subway Sandwich Artist?

If you know of any part-time jobs you know where to send them!

I’m bringing back the daily posts as much as I can, at least Monday-Thursday as my weekends are incredibly busy. But for now, I’m going to go hunting through craigslist to separate the potential jobs from the potential murderers ads… it’s a fun game.
