Day Forty Five - Day One?
I’m tempted to start the day counter again. Originally it was counting how many days it had been before I got a job… and well, I have a job now, so should it be restarted to count the numbers of days I have had a job? Regardless, today was my first shift in the promotions department and I have to say this is going to be a sweet job.
A little story for you…
The event today was a VIP pool party for listeners. It was held at this prestigious resort/development place, which I have only been too a few times. I backed the cruiser with my fellow co-worker and headed down to the place. We pull up and it’s this luxury recreation centre, which makes it sound like the community swimming pool that is flooded with small children. Think again. This is the classy rec centre. It costs almost 20 bucks to drop in… but it is so gorgeous and luxurious it’s worth every penny.
ANYWAYS!
We set up for this event and as I look around I notice that the place is full of really attractive people. Have you heard of the website Beautiful People? Where you have to send in a picture and be judged by “beautiful” people to see if you meet the criteria to join? Well, let’s just say the beautiful people club were having a meeting at this place. It was hilarious and awkward all at the same time! It definitely prevented me from stuffing my face with the 20 mini hamburgers that I could totally demolish! Try and imagine a L.A./Hollywood, gym/pool, then picture me holding a platter of burgers… not a pretty picture… hence the not-stuffing-the-face method.
I had a blast and I have to say as a tip to all of you that might still be searching for your first gig…. don’t be afraid of part-time jobs. That is what my job is considered, but the things I get to do can’t be classified as work… they just seem to awesome! Tomorrow? Hanging out at a beautiful golf course… the next day? Chilling with the morning show host at a farmer’s market! At both I’m giving away prizes, how can you beat that? So don’t worry about trying to find that full time job. Get your foot in the door first, prove your stuff (like I’m going to do) and make them have to promote you to full time!
Also remember, send in your stories! Have you been on a promotions team? What was the funnest event you ran? What’s the weirdest thing that happened? Let me know in the comments below, or email me the full story to: mitch.hawes@gmail.com
