Kind Words from Joe Leary - Host, Morning Sports Wheel on Team 1410 | 1040

I received an email a couple weeks ago and through the day to day stuff, I forgot to post it. My bad! This was one of the first emails that I received about the blog that was unsolicited. This email just goes to show you the community feel that comes with working in “The Industry”. Have a read!

Mitch:

I just wanted to write and tell you that I think your blog idea is solid, and an interesting and fresh perspective from someone so eager to embark upon a broadcast career.

It seems your early ambitions are similar to mine as I too was totally obsessed with becoming a radio guy as a kid, and when I went to one of my high school reunions some years back, I found that I was one of a very few from my class that even followed through and actually pursued their dreams.

In fact, in my high school grad bio, I said I wanted to be a radio announcer and am still as enthralled with the tenets and nature of broadcasting as when I started.
It’s really nice to see how passionate you are and just know that the local broadcast industry has a number of similarly caring, talented and genuinely welcoming and supportive people currently engaged in it, as opposed to forums of this nature that, too often become safe havens for some really miserable pieces of crap that do nothing but piss all over a newcomer’s eagerness and passion; all the while hiding anonymously behind an alias.

I wish you a lot of luck in your career and hope it takes you where you want it to and if I can be a sounding board or a source of advice at any time, feel free to call.

Cheers, and best to you,

Joe Leary

Again, I just wanted to share that with you because these are the types of emails that you will receive throughout your career (hopefully). It is always nice to receive advice from people in industry as well as a helping hand. The lesson here is if you receive an email like this. Keep it. Brag about it and call the person when you need advice. They’ve offered, take them up on it!
