One of Those Good Days
You know those kinds of days where you wake up rested, ready and excited to tackle the day? Well, that was me this morning. I got to sleep in and start work a little later today, but that was only the beginning of the awesomeness that was my Friday October 29th…
I’m still learning that although this blog was started to chronicle my journey in the industry, it has a following. I find this amusing because I’m just a guy sitting in front of my laptop and typing (hopefully somewhat entertaining things) while listening to my iTunes. Occaisionally it throws me a song that I haven’t heard in awhile, which naturally, leads to a dance party for one which is sort of distracting, but well worth it…. where was I?
I sometimes forget that I marketed this blog. I’ve told everyone I know and a lot of people I don’t know about it and so when someone says “I was reading ‘The Industry’ the other day…” besides making me reflect on my use of punctuation, it also makes me smile. Today started with the weekly meeting at the station, but this is where it starts to get cool. We were going over what the weekend looked like when my boss mentioned casually, “oh, and Mitch you’ll be doing your cut-ins live this weekend”
.Pause.
“SAY WHAAATTTT?!” I thought in my head while trying to keep a calm, cool and collected expression on my face. “Sweet, no problem” or something along those lines came spilling out of my mouth (quite easy when your jaw is on the floor). I still can’t believe it. I know it may not seem like a big deal to you, but being live in a medium market right out of college is very rare. I mean I get the “live on location” music behind my voice, how much cooler can it be! The best part? I’m going to get a lot of opportunities to try live cuts from here on in. But that was only part one…
Part two is directly related to this blog… my sure shots actually. A couple days ago I posted some songs up that I think are going to be big hits very shortly, prefaced by me saying how I would love to be a music director at some point in my career. Well, it’s not on my business card yet, but my boss read that post and told me that I seem to have my fingers on the pulse of the music scene so, if I find music that would fit our stations that I should email them to her and who knows maybe they will be added. Uhhh…. booyah! But that’s only part two.
Part three is just the icing on the cake. For anyone who knows me, you know that I’m a massive Harry Potter fan and well, I have a full costume that I don’t get to wear nearly enough outside the house. Seeing as how it’s Halloween time, I got to dust it off and where it tonight at a station event. Apparently it looks like a judge’s robe… but that’s just to the untrained eye. Now it’s all ready for the midnight show of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in a couple weeks. In conclusion: live cut ins, music and a wizard outfit makes for a very happy Mitch.
