Sure Shots…
I have always had a passion for music, however at a young-ish age I realized that my passion wasn’t so much for making music (sorry for wasting your time band teachers) it was for listening to music. Now I like to think of this as more then just a hobby, because eventually one job that I would love to have is the title of Music Director (perhaps in neon lights above my desk… or on a business card, that’s cool too).
I like to think that I have an ear for what is going to be popular in the near future, especially lately when a bunch of songs that I have had on my ipod hit the radio all at the same time. So instead of keeping the music to myself, I’m going to share with you my “sure shots”. *Note: Just because I deem them a sure shot, does not mean that I like the song.
- Hands - The Ting Tings.
- This is the latest song from the UK pop group, but I have to say they have done a phenomenal job of creating their own unique sound. They have turned from straight pop into Electro/Dance-Pop which is a genre that can be easily turned into a horrible 80’s tribute if done poorly. But I take my hat off to them, it’s incredibly catchy and is the first single off of their approaching album which is rumoured to be called C*nt. Apparently it’s German for art or something along those lines… skeptical. - We R Who We R - Ke$ha
- Although it brings a tear to my eye to think that singing is no longer needed for a song, Ke$ha has proven that sing-talking is mind-numbingly and regrettably impressive. We R Who We R, besides proving what text speak is doing to the English language, will definitely be on the radio shortly. It is off her upcoming record: Cannibal which is set to be released on November 22…yay? - Kevin Rudolf - You Make the Rain Fall
- Although this music video has been out for over a month, I have yet to hear it on the radio here in Victoria and I’m still confused why? It has over 400,000 hits on youtube alone. Now if you vaguely remember the name, Kevin Rudolf became mainstream with his successful Top 40 hit Let it Rock with Lil’ Wayne and this newest one (in my opinion) is his best. - Marina and the Diamonds - Shampain
- This is Alternative Pop at it’s finest. These guys had a small hit not to long ago with their first single - I am Not a Robot, but it didn’t last long (here anyways). However, Shampain has a similar vibe but with a heavier dance element. I shared the video on here a couple weeks ago, but it’s still fresh.
If you have a Sure Shot, I would love to hear it. Leave it in the comments below, send me an email to mitch.hawes@gmail.com or @ reply me on twitter to @mitchhawes with a link.
