What’s a Lapel?
Today was the big day. The day where I truly became a radio person. I can finally understand and grasp the piece of advice we have all read about on this blog over and over. Radio doesn’t pay. There I said it and if you look through any of the advice from professionals in the industry the majority of them talk about having to have a second job… therefore, I have become a true broadcaster because today I had my first day at my second job.
Now if you only know me through the wonders of the internet, then you probably don’t know my past work experience, so let me lay it out for you:
- Parent’s Company (Warehouse, Office Clerk and “official truck cleaner”
- Movie Theater (Concession and Floor because I’m that awesome. I can stink like fake butter and sweep up dirty used kleenex in the same day…YAY!)
- Camp Photographer (Pretty sweet job, consisted of taking pictures, eating ice cream and basically being a kid at camp)
- Grocery Store Deli (salami still haunts me in my dreams)
That pretty much catches you up… the problem with this list, I have no retail experience. I have barely even had to touch money before, and what job am I doing? I’m retail/sales associate at a high end suit store. How did this happen?
Now I barely know how to wear a suit myself let alone sell one to someone, and I’m definitely not selling $9 popcorn (overpriced as it may be), we’re talking $700 bare minimum. GAH! Let’s just say I have a big learning curve ahead of me. It starts with learning measurements, apparently small, medium and large doesn’t apply to suits. I’m going to have to learn how to use a measuring tape and everything… very scary stuff.
Although it is a whole different realm, I think I’ll be able to pick it up fairly easily. It wasn’t an incredibly busy day, so there was time to talk and really understand the process, but like any new job, there is a lot of things to take in at once. Hopefully, when I go in again tomorrow morning, I will have retained some of the stuff. The people I met were all really nice and eager to help (which is great because I need it) but, if you want a suit I will definitely try my hardest to help you with my limited knowledge, and if I ask you if a lapel is a dessert from Italy just say yes!
