About the Blog

Bio

My name is Mitch Hawes. I’m a Canadian through and through; except not crazy into hockey, but I do fall into the rest of the stereotypes (maple syrup, Tim Horton’s connoisseur etc.) I have had a passion for all things radio for as long as I can remember and although that sounds cliche, it’s the truth. While other kids were playing with action figures I was practicing song intro’s to the radio and trying to make mix tapes. I’ll be honest, if I wasn’t interested in radio I have no idea what career I would go for… maybe become a CSI (I mean it seems so easy on TV) but fortunately I don’t have to worry about that.

I took my passion and determination and took the Radio Broadcasting Program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Vancouver, BC (yes, where the Olympics were… and I have some stories about that too). Now that, that chapter of my life is through I have to embrace the ‘real world’ and hence the blog.

So read, laugh, enjoy and remember my life’s philosophy: Everything is better when it’s deep-fried and covered in chocolate (this keeps me on track)

Why?

A mighty fine word. Well here it is. I have just graduated from college in radio broadcasting and I (along with a ton of people) are trying to break into the industry… and well, it’s not turning out as easy as what I may have thought. Being near the top of the class doesn’t mean anything when you are applying for jobs with hundreds of other people. So what is this blog? This is my personal record and account of the radio industry and what it takes to put the piece of paper I worked hard for to use.

Good days, bad days, funny days and lazy days. This is my daily journey to become a broadcaster.
